Why We Love Living in Southern Utah VII
In continuing our series of blogs on living in Southern Utah and why we love it, I was looking out at the mountains and I noticed something that I had taken for granted, our red hill here in Cedar City. I know, red hills are pretty common in Southern Utah, so what is the big deal, right? Well, the big deal is that we have many different colors in our landscapes here in Southern Utah, so we should never become bored with our scenery!
This is is a photograph I used earlier, but at the back of the golf course you can see rainbow canyon, it is raining and a low cloud cover today, so I really can’t get another good photograph of it right now, maybe for a later post!
Here are some other photos that I took last weekend that really illustrate what I am trying to say!
And one other from last weekend
As you can see, we do live in a very diversely colored landscape. Something that we love, even if we seem to take it for granted on occasion.

Why We Love Living In Southern Utah V
Today I want to show you another reason that we love living in Southern Utah. The photograph that I am going to insert is of the Government Point area of the Boulder Mountain. Under that point there are several wonderful fishing lakes that hold clear, blue water. My father grew up in Torrey, and spent much of his life fishing and working on this part of the Boulder Mountain. He and his brothers cut in many of the roads that are still in use today.
It has also been said that a branch of the Old Spanish Trail followed under the rim of the Boulder Mountain. The Great Western ATV Trail now follows a large section of that area. The Mountain itself is host to all sorts of wildlife from bear and moose to elk, deer, antelope and many predatory animals like Mountain Lions, Coyotes and foxes.

There is a diverse balance of modern (European) history and “ancient history in the area. There is a lot of evidence of the pre-historic Native Cultures in our area. One of the most graphic area of evidence is the Parowan Gap. Long believed to be some sort of ancient observatory. I have heard it called the Fremont Cultures (the name of the ancient culture) Stonehenge. These photos were taken a couple of years ago, but the petroglyphs are a very interesting and a must see if you’re in the area.
Again, we are blessed to have such beauty and history not too far from home!

This is another reason that we love living here in Southern Utah, there is a lot of things to do. We enjoy some great golf courses, hiking, mountain biking as well as diverse ATV trails that you can ride. We also love that we enjoy all 4 Seasons, although this year Winter went a little long and based on the past day or two, Spring was really short!

New “Lake” in Cedar City
These are some photographs of the new "Lake" in Cedar City. It is actually a reservoir that is still under construction. It is a recreational reservoir, that will eventually allow for swimming and playing in the water. It is also going to have a beach. The reservoir is located at the South end of Leigh Hill, near Park Discovery and the School District Offices.
View looking South across the new reservoir. The Iron County School District Offices are the large brown building in the background.
A view through the fence that keeps people out while they are working constructing the reservoir.
