Rivers Alive in Alpharetta and Roswell – North Fulton County

Your Alpharetta Realtor is Proud to Share This Important Information with YOU!

Rivers Alive Cleanups Target Local Waterways

RiversAlive

Released on: Friday, September 11, 2009 5:00 PM

North Fulton area residents will soon wade into rivers, lakes and streams as well as clean up land areas as part of the continuing statewide campaign to clean and preserve over 70,000 miles of Georgia’s rivers and streams. The effort is part of Rivers Alive, a joint program of the Environmental Protection Division’s Adopt-A-Stream Program and the Department of Community Affairs’ Keep Georgia Beautiful Program.

Volunteers in North Fulton will stage their cleanup on September 26th at Riverside Park located at 575 Riverside Drive in Roswell. The organized event will be held from 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM. The annual Georgia Waterway Cleanup is expected to once again be the largest single volunteer effort to beautify Georgia’s water resources

Everyone will register at Riverside Park beginning at 8:30am and be sent to various land sites in Roswell and Alpharetta in need of a pick up. All volunteers under age 18 must have the Rivers Alive volunteer waiver form completed and signed by a parent before arriving at the event.

The form is available on the internet at www.keeproswellbeautiful.org. Volunteers who have a canoe or kayak are encouraged to bring one to assist in cleaning the waterway. Other volunteers will focus on adjacent land areas. Following the cleanup, volunteers bring their bags and collected items to Riverside Park by 11:00 AM where everything will be weighed and tallied. Local officials will present awards based on the tallies beginning at 11:30 AM.

Neighborhoods and groups are invited to plan a cleanup ahead of time and to bring their collected items to Riverside Park on September 26th before 11:00 AM so that the result sof their efforts can be recorded and included in the overall tally.

North Fulton volunteers will be joining an estimated 30,000 other volunteers statewide participating in the annual river cleanup. This fall over 200 other cleanups will collect trash and similar debris in streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands and the ocean from Lake Allatoona in North Georgia to the Ochlockonee River in the South

A water festival will occur at Riverside Park with hands on demonstrations, environmental games, crafts, and other activities for all ages from 10:30AM until 1:00PM. The event will include a free concert, compliments of Keep Roswell Beautiful, featuring Johnny Roquemore and the Apostles of Bluegrass from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Everyone is invited to picnic in the park for the concert.

At 1:15 everyone is invited to the annual Keep Roswell Beautiful Duck Race. The race will take place on Oxbo Road along Big Creek. This is the 4th year for the race, and Roswell
Mayor Jere Wood will be the official race starter. Ducks will be available for rent at the Keep Roswell Beautiful booth at Rivers Alive. Ducks are $3.00 each or 3 for $5.00. The winning duck number will receive $100 and the second place duck number will receive $50. You do not need to be present to win.

Harbert expects Rivers Alive 2009 to involve thousands more volunteers and to continue to be the states and one of the South’s largest volunteer efforts to beautify water resources.

Swallow at the Hollow in Roswell, Georgia

Your Roswell Realtor is Proud to Share this Important Information with YOU!!!

Do you like good food?

Do you like good  country music?

Then you’ve found the PERFECT place!!!

swallow-at-the-hollow

Swallow at the Hollow is one of Roswell, Georgia’s pride and joys!!!

It’s an exciting Restaurant with a delicious menu chocked full of homemade food.  Their philosophy on their menu is: If you can make it homemade, you do make it homemade”.  And let me tell you, they make some tasty homemade food.  From hickory smoked meats, side dishes of homemade macaroni & cheese and homemade pickles to unbelievable desserts including homemade chocolate chip banana pudding.  My favorite though are the Fried Green Tomatoes.  Dip them in a little Ranch Dressing…and MMMmmmm!!!

Their music philosophy is that “if you are going to spend that much time and effort to make the food so good, you’d better keep the entertainment on that same level”.  And you won’t be disappointed!  Shows begin at 10:00 on Friday and Saturday nights presenting Nashville’s singers/songwriters/artists.

Of course, Wednesday night’s (inside) and Thursday night’s (outside, weather permitting) are real treats b/c there are no cover charges, featuring some of the talented local artists.

On Sunday night’s-inside the duo of Tom and Julie entertain you.

Come out and see the giant canoe full of beer!!!

GREAT FOOD AND GREAT MUSIC!!!

I was enlightened about the Peachtree Diner in Roswell by someone who commented on one of my restaurant reviews in East Cobb. Here’s what he said:
“Another quaint restaurant that brings that personalized service that you expect is Peachtree Diner. We have only had breakfast at this restaurant, but let me tell you, it was to die for. The service was great, the food was excellent, and the company was second to none.”
After I received this comment, I decided to try the Peachtree Diner for myself.  I too went for breakfast, and I have to say that I wasn’t at all disappointed!  I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict and it was delicious!!!
I’m looking forward to going back for lunch.  When I do, I will update this post!
If you go to Peachtree Diner, or have been before, let me know your thoughts…and suggestions on what I should order. :)

Fulton County High Schools Lead State in ACT Performance

Your North Metro Atlanta Realtor would like to share this important information with YOU!

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Seven Fulton County high schools are among the state’s leaders in ACT performance, according to information released today by the Georgia Department of Education and the ACT organization.act test During the 2009 testing cycle, 2,520 Fulton County students took the test – an increase of 267 students, or nearly 12 percent, from the previous year. While some schools saw changes in their performance, the overall Fulton County composite score remained constant at 22.2 and is the highest of the large metro Atlanta school systems. The state and national composite scores also stayed the same at 20.6 and 21.1, respectively. Scores range from 0 to 36. Click here to view school-by-school scores and comparisons between the 2008 and 2009 testing cycles.  In its release of information, the state Department of Education listed Chattahoochee High School (25.2 composite score) as Georgia’s top performing school. Riverwood International Charter School (25.0) also was noted, as was Milton High School (24.6), Northview High School (24.6), Alpharetta High School (23.9), Roswell High School (23.7) and Centennial High School (23.4). Riverwood also was highlighted as one of the state’s most improved schools in ACT performance.   “I’m pleased to see an increase of students taking the ACT. The test is an excellent predictor of how successful our students will be in a college environment,” said Superintendent Cindy Loe, Ph.D. “I’m proud that our students continue to do so well on this test and are outperforming their state and national peers.”   Similar to the SAT, the ACT is commonly used for college admission and placement. According to the organization, the test is taken by more than 50 percent of high school students in 27 states and is increasingly becoming the preferred admission test by four-year colleges. The test measures English, math, reading and science proficiency, with an optional writing section, whereas the SAT measures only math, reading and writing. Testing is voluntary and occurs throughout the year, and students are able to take the test more than once to improve their performance.   ACT originally stood for American College Testing but in 1996 the organization’s name was shortened to simply “ACT.” The organization was founded in 1959 and celebrates 50 years of college entrance testing this year.   Call or Email me today for all of your Real Estate needs!
